Emin Çetinceviz Central Library Expands Publication and Information Network

A presentation was made to Rector Prof.Dr. Tarık Yarılgaç about the activities carried out in 2018 by the Library and Documentation Department.

The Rector of the University Prof. Dr. Tarık Yarılgaç, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Fikri Balta, General Secretary Assoc. Dr. Mehmet Kenan Şahin, Head of the Library and Documentation Department Ali Aygün and the staff of the unit attended the meeting held in the senate chamber. 

At the meeting, Rector. Prof. Dr. Tarık Yarılgaç was informed about the general structure of Emin Çetinceviz Central Library, the library collection, the studies carried out in 2018 and the 2019 targets of the university.

The presentation of the Emin Çetinceviz Central Library, which was opened in 2017, included topics such as its location and design as a center of attraction, its user-oriented understanding, remote access to library services, satisfaction surveys conducted to library users within the scope of Higher Education Quality Assurance System, donation books, library week organizations, orientation trainings offered by visiting academic units in districts and opportunities for disabled users.

As of 2019,  Emin Çetinceviz Central Library, which provides its users with access to the printed and electronic information treasury that it has with its technical support and open access archive, digital library services, interlibraries cooperation and document supply services establishes a suitable environment for the literature search with 83 thousand 868 books, more than 200 thousand electronic books and more than 40 thousand electronic journals subscriptions and a scientific infrastructure is provided to academicians and students of our university with which they have quick access to information.

Besides, the Library and Documentation Department, has been carrying on the studies of carrying the Faculty Library of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences to the Emin Çetinceviz Central Library since 2018. The department has been assigned to carry out the institutional archive studies and started the institutional archive process with the necessary investigations and researches.

In 2018, in addition to acquiring the Ahmet Altay Library, in the Central Library where a private collection of the Faculties of Fine Arts, Music and Performing Arts is established, were held activities such as the collection of printed information sources, cataloging operations, labeling, chip insertion, placement of shelves on the shelves and in a regular manner are put into service, providing information sources that academic staff could not access in electronic environment, conducting open access archive services, processing thesis and data entries to the system, providing remote access services, creating books and library awareness in users.

Rector Prof. Dr. Tarık Yarılgaç stated that the libraries are places with spatial importance which unites universal knowledge and local knowledge in both scientific and social framework and added: “ The Emin Çetinceviz Central Library of the Ordu University showed a very rapid development in a short period of time in two years since the inauguration in 2017. In addition to national and international data screening facilities, our Central Library provides an environment for research in scientific, artistic and cultural areas with numerous printed and electronic works. In addition, it continues its archive studies in order to place the corporate memory on solid foundations and increase the permanence of such corporate culture. Our library which plays an important role in reaching the universal information of our University in an innovative way by following the latest technological developments such as cataloging and remote access systems will continue his work without slowing down in 2019.”
