Disabled Sports Festivals Performed at Ordu University
In our university, "Disability Sports Festivals" were organized by the Disability Unit of the Health, Culture and Sports Department within the Disability Week.
The activity was held in the Indoor Sports Hall of the School of Physical Education and Sports and Prof. Dr. Tarık Yarılgaç, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Tevfik Noyan, Ünye Physical Disabilities Youth and Sports Club President Nihat Yerlikaya, academicians and administrative staff, students and invited people attended.
Visually impaired Rıdvan Çelik performed the presentation of the program written in Braille alphabet and made the opening speech of the activity. Our Rector Prof. Dr. Tarık Yarılgaç stated that: “It is one of the primary objectives of state institutions that disabled citizens, who constitute an important population within the society, make good use of working life, education, health and social rights. In this context, as a requirement of becoming a social state, services related to education, health and employment rights are presented to our citizens with disabilities. In this context, we are always with each and every one of the private individuals in our lives and we know that each individual is a potential handicapped candidate. As the management of Ordu University, in its 10th year, we made special Olympics Regional Games with great participation in our university. Our primary goal is to get our private people out of narrow boundaries and draw them into the flow of life, bringing them together with other individuals in sports and social spaces. In addition, Emin Çetinceviz Central Library, which we opened on December 15, 2017, has special areas for students with visual, hearing and speech disabilities. As an institution, we continue to be a university that is ready to make the lives of private individuals easier with similar works.”
Rector Prof. Dr. Tarık Yarılgaç stated that: “We need to acquire independent living skills at an early age when our young people need special needs, which we have met through the opportunity of qualified education from early ages, and we will keep our resolve and determination to offer them a more prosperous life. I want you to know that we will continue to mobilize our academic accumulation and infrastructure possibilities for our disabled citizens and I will try to help to eliminate all problems with the exemplary works we carry out.”
Following the opening speeches, Rector Yarılgaç participated in "Archery, Wrist Gear and Table Tennis" matches organized by “Ünye Sports Club For Physically Disabled People” and the football match played between the staff of our university and Association of the Visually Handicapped.
