Stakeholders of International Hazelnut Project Come Together at Our University

The stakeholders of the Project of Investigating Traditional and Modern Methods in Hazelnut Production, which is supported by the European Union Education and Youth Programs Center, met at a meeting held at our University.

Seddar Yavuz, the governor of Ordu, was appointed to the meeting organized by the Faculty of Agriculture Prof. Dr. Fikri Balta, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture Prof. Dr. Tahsin Tonkaz, Ordu Commodity Exchange Chairman Ziver Kahraman, Ordu Chamber of Agriculture President Atakan Akca, academic and administrative staff participated.

After the meeting, Ordu Governorship, Ordu Chamber of Agriculture; Spain's Institute of Food, Agricultural Research and Technology (IRTA) and Italy's Tuscia University were visited. Ordu Governor Seddar Yavuz received information from the Head of the Department of Horticulture, Prof. Dr. Ali İslam about the hazelnut garden located as 5 hectares of land at our University in 2017.

Governor Yavuz stated that farmers and professional capacity in order to increase quality and efficiency of international technologies and good practice in the development of the sharing of the focus was focused on the sharing of Turkish hazelnut varieties and Italy and Spain varieties within the scope of the project. Providing the introduction of varieties from Italy and Spain will be made after the Governor Yavuz Turkish hazelnut varieties and yield-quality characteristics will be compared, he added.

Governor Yavuz also received information by visiting the field where different fruit species were cultivated in the Agricultural Faculty Research and Application Garden.
