In 2006, 4 thousand 400 students, Ordu University, which started its education campaign with academicians and 110 administrative personnel, continues its education as a nationally and internationally preferred university with approximately 20 thousand students, 818 academic, 352 administrative, 320 permanent workers and contracted personnel''.

Rector Akdoğan stated, ''Ordu University offers a comfortable, reliable, peaceful and quality education opportunity to its students with its scientific, social and cultural life. While our university ranks 42nd among 125 state universities, it is ranked 1st among universities in the Black Sea region. These data show us how successful our University is in the distance education process.”

Rector Akdoğan, who stated that Ordu University carries its academic development forward with each passing year, said, “According to the results of URAP 2021-2022, it is 83rd among 179 universities in Turkey, 69th among 121 state universities, and 26th among 108 universities established after 2000. Ranking in the th place, our University continues to move its place to the top every year. In today's world where a rapid development and change process is experienced, our corporate goal is to increase the quality and diversity of our scientific studies and to contribute to the development of the country by raising the quality of our educational activities every period by striving to create a society equipped with information-based systems. In addition, we aim to raise our young people, who are the guarantee of our future in universities, which are top scientific institutions, as individuals who respect their homeland and flag, are loyal to their national and moral values, produce, feed on correct information, think freely and can discuss in an environment of tolerance. With these thoughts, I wish the 2021-2022 academic year to be beneficial for our students, academic and administrative staff, and our country.”

Deputy Minister of Commerce Sezai Uçarmak said, “There are some discourses such as young people want to go abroad or young people do not want to work in Turkey. I think that our students should be properly guided to go abroad. No matter what field you study in Turkey, if you have been able to improve yourself, there is a field of study. In our studentship, highly qualified students went to the aeronautical engineering department, but they could not find a field of study. Today, our friends find work in electrical-electronics, genetics and many other fields.”

Ordu Governor Tuncay Sonel said, “With its 19 districts, green, blue, hazelnut orchards, plateaus, waterfalls and hospitable people, our Ordu is one of the most precious cities of both the Black Sea and our country. You are entrusted to God first and then to us. I hope you will complete your education in Ordu safely and you will come to places where you will do good works for this beautiful country in the future. Whatever work you do, do it happily, and definitely improve yourself. Once you set the goal, there is no task that cannot be overcome. Our University, which is one of the most important values ??of our Ordu family with its 20 thousand students, 1500 academic and administrative staff, is very important for us, our region and our country. When you leave Ordu in the future, you will be the voluntary envoys of our city. I wish the new academic year to be beneficial to you, our academicians, our staff, the University community, your families and our country in the presence of our Rector.”

The Academic Opening Lesson was given by Ordu Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Dr. Hilmi Guler.

After the music concert held after the opening speeches, the opening lesson was held by Dr. Hilmi Güler, Ordu Metropolitan Municipality Mayor. Güler said, “The university we laid the foundation of in 2006 turned out to be a magnificent work. We are very happy that a wonderful center has emerged with our esteemed teachers and our esteemed students. In the speech I gave while laying the foundation, I started with Martin Luther King's 'I have a dream', i.e. 'I have a dream' at that time and I saw this dream come true. I wanted to do a SWOT analysis with you to shed light on what we can do in the future at this university, where we started because I had a dream. In other words, with this analysis, strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats are discussed. One of our strengths is that we are in a developing university. Secondly, we are in a magnificent place, surrounded by greenery, with its climate, water and everything. This is one of the most powerful resources. There are other threats as well. We had a Covid epidemic. Such crises are also fertile, we need to analyze very well what they will bring. This is in the economy, in the administration, in the resources, we need to evaluate all of them very well. At the same time, we are facing a major drought with climate change, and it will also affect agriculture and energy. During my Ministry of Energy, we gave great importance to energy security and passed laws such as renewable energy and energy efficiency, we are seeing the benefits of it now. Now it seems that food security will be very important. Food can also be negatively affected by drought. Water safety is a very important element along with food safety. Since we are in a science center; At this point, we need to take mutual measures together with our rector, academicians and students. Ordu is a family that is strongly connected to each other, and our University is the most important point of this. Since the most important feature of universities is a research and solution center, it is also a center that sheds light on developments, a center that makes analysis and synthesis, so you have a great role here. The title of our talk today was formulated as the role of universities in changing world conditions and mutual expectations in terms of city-university relations. We are not just any university, we are a very valuable science center of Ordu. 15 years have passed since the foundation stone was laid, then the first dream we spoke about came true. Now, our second dream is a second period in which these are realized, these are turned into products, and at the same time, the development of our region and Turkey will provide comparative advantages; I hope we can make this second dream come true together.”
