“Women's Rights in Historical Process” Online Seminar was Held as part of March 8, International Women's Day

An online seminar on "Women's Rights in the Historical Process" was organized by the Gender Application and Research Center of our University within the scope of March 8, International Women's Day.

Gender Application and Research Center Director Dr. Nalan Arabacı, giving information about the position of women in Turkish society, said, “Ensuring gender equality in the social field, appreciating women's labor, giving women the value they deserve has a very important role in ensuring family unity and welfare as well as community unity and welfare. The fact that women are strong and self-confident means that the society is also strong. In this context, our greatest wish is the continuation of the rights and achievements obtained".

Rector Prof. Dr. Ali Akdoğan said, “Our women, who shaped the family and our society with their devoted and productive work, have been at the center of our social life, nation and state structure at every stage of our history from past to present, and have always shown the highest of sacrifices in every period and process. It should be our common desire to do our part to transform the gender phenomenon, which expresses the gender identity that is built with the roles and behavior patterns assigned by the society, to 'equal' and to eliminate the gender discrimination in many areas of life. Polarizing men and women is the greatest evil done to both sexes, men and women alike. We are the representatives of a belief in which the rights of girls were defended to the end, not the social structure in which girls were buried alive in the Era of Ignorance. Our national and spiritual realities make it an order to give women the rights and freedoms they have. Therefore, if the rights of women are violated, if there is violence against women, and if women are marginalized and ignored, it is our responsibility to defend them as a society, as a human being. In this context, making our women more visible in the public sphere by being more involved in the economic, political, scientific and social spheres and giving them equal opportunity in all areas will be an important step towards ending gender inequality. I congratulate all our women on March 8, International Women's Day, with the hope that this important day will raise awareness with these feelings and thoughts.''

After the opening speeches, Dr.Tuğba Acar Erdol gave information about the position of women in the historical process under the title of women's movements, feminism and gender, the rights and achievements of women in the first, second and third waves of feminism.

Faculty of Education Deputy Dean and Faculty of Theology Prof. Dr. Sadık Kılıç drew attention to femicides and violence against women and underlined that permanent studies and preventive measures should be taken as soon as possible regarding the education of those who perpetrate violence against women and girls in the light of cultural, religious, moral, spiritual and philosophical criteria. The program ended after the question and answer session.
