Our University Has Been Qualified To Be A Candidate For The “2020 Barrier-Free University Awards”

Our university has been awarded the "Orange Flag" in the field of "Accessibility in Space" due to the regulations made in the building of the Faculty of Education and the Faculty of Fine Arts regarding access to the space for disabled individuals.

The "2020 Barrier-Free Universities Award Ceremony", which was organized to raise awareness about the access of disabled individuals in higher education institutions to places, educational opportunities and socio-cultural activities and to spread good practices, was held online this year due to the Covid-19 outbreak. Minister of Family, Labor and Social Services Zehra Zümrüt Selçuk, YÖK President Prof. Dr. M. A. Yekta Saraç, CoHE Disabled Students Working Group Executive and YÖK Executive Board Member Prof. Dr. Zeliha Koçak Tufan, Members of the Executive Board of YÖK, rectors of the universities with the most awards; Officials from the Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Services and disabled student units at universities attended.

At the ceremony held, "Barrier-Free University Flags" and "Barrier-Free Program Insignia" were given to universities by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) in order to determine the activities carried out to ensure the full, effective and equal participation of persons with disabilities within the boundaries of the university campus, to reward those deemed successful, and to raise public awareness. Barrier-Free University Flags; It was awarded in 3 categories: Accessibility in Space (Orange Flag), Accessibility in Education (Green Flag) and Accessibility to Socio-Cultural Activities (Blue Flag).

Our university, which continues to work to reduce the difficulties faced by disabled students throughout their university life, has been nominated for the “Barrier Free University 2020” award due to the regulations made in the Faculty of Education and the Faculty of Fine Arts regarding access to the place for the disabled.

Stating that important work has been carried out in all units of Ordu University in order to become a university without barriers, Rector Prof. Dr. Ali Akdoğan said, “As the Ordu University administration, with all our units; Aware of the diversity and diversity of our students, realizing the importance of creating a culturally sensitive and accessible campus, it provides a supportive and well-resourced environment for students with disabilities; We act with the mission of removing the restrictions on their academic success and education and helping them to develop their independence as individuals. We design all the physical structures in our university in such a way that our disabled students will not have any problems during their education life, and we spread this understanding to all our campuses with the improvements we make in our service buildings. In this context, we are pleased that the Faculty of Education and the Faculty of Fine Arts building, located in our Republic Campus, has been awarded by YÖK as an orange flag candidate in the 'Accessible University Awards 2020' within the scope of the 'Accessible University Awards 2020'. I would like to thank our YÖK President and YÖK members who put the continuous improvement approach at the center with their work. "
