Rector Prof. Dr. Ali Akdoğan was the Guest of the "Those Who Direct Ordu" Program Broadcasted on Altaş TV

Being a guest of the "Those Who Direct Ordu" program broadcasted on Altaş TV, Rector Akdoğan answered the questions of Funda Altaş Şimşit on many issues related to the academic development of Ordu University, university hospital, city university integration, Tourism Faculty and distance education.
Answering the questions about the distance education process, Rector Prof. Dr. Ali Akdoğan stated, ”As higher education institutions, we have made every effort and effort to minimize the effects of the pandemic process we are experiencing on the education life of our students. As Ordu University, we have completed the spring term education process smoothly through distance education and digital education opportunities by making preparations for the necessary infrastructure, equipment and information systems in order to ensure that education processes can be carried out as smoothly as possible without interruption and our students do not experience victimization. Approximately 94 percent of our university participated in the distance education system between April and July. During this period, nearly 300 thousand resources of 383 gigabytes were uploaded to the system. In total, 69 thousand 81 hours of live lessons were held in 31 thousand sessions. Looking at the statistics, it is clearly seen that the informatics infrastructure of our university is suitable for distance education. Our university continues its distance education process without interruption in the 2020-2021 Education Period. In the future, the decisions to be taken by our Ministry of Health, Scientific Committee and Higher Education Council will be determining whether the education will be in the form of face-to-face or distance education.”
Stating that the project work of the university hospital is continuing, Rector Akdoğan explained, “As Ordu University, we want all medical treatments of a sick citizen to be made in Ordu to reduce dependence on neighbor provinces. It is common opinion of everyone that it is necessary to build a more modern hospital equipped with advanced technologies and have a sufficient number of doctors in order to solve the health problems of Ordu citizens. I had stated before that 208 decares of land belonging to our university is available as a second alternative if needed. In the past months, we examined the area to be allocated for the hospital within the scope of the studies carried out with the officials of the Ministry of Health, General Directorate of Health Investment Services, and exchanged ideas about the suitability of the land and the current situation. Project studies are continuing for the hospital of total 900 beds, 592 of them one bedded, with a total closed area of 300 thousand square meters, with a service building of 278 thousand 370 square meters, an additional service building of 16 thousand square meters, is planned to be built by the Ministry of Health on the land allocated by our university. Within the scope of the ongoing project, in order to include a Morphology building project, which will include classrooms, laboratories and study rooms for faculty members and students of the Faculty of Medicine, we allocated an additional area of 42 acres in line with the decision we made with our University Executive Board. The morphology building with a total closed area of 22 thousand 300 square meters on the allocated land is planned to be built within the scope of the hospital project.”
Rector Akdoğan, providing information about the building of the Faculty of Tourism, stated that the maintenance and repair work continues uninterrupted and added, “As Ordu University, we continue to work uninterruptedly with the aim of contributing to our city, region and country. In this context, we will preserve the original state of our building, which previously served as Faculty of Agriculture and Faculty of Dentistry, and open it as Tourism Faculty and Application Hotel in the new term. Maintenance and repair work continues in the Faculty of Tourism of our University, which will start educational activities in Güzelyalı Campus, which has a total area of 5 thousand 800 square meters. The Faculty of Tourism, which will continue its educational activities in an area of 1,300 square meters, is building a 14-room Application Hotel on a total area of one thousand square meters, where 50 people can stay. The Practice Hotel will be a site where our students will transform their theoretical knowledge into practice while continuing their educational activities in the sense of tourism. In addition, an Application Restaurant is planned to be built on an area of 150 square meters. I believe that our Tourism Faculty will contribute to our University and our city.”
Rector Akdoğan, who made a statement about the units opened in the Faculty of Dentistry last month and the Family Health Center explained, ”We recently opened the Disabled and Dental Tomography Units in our Faculty of Dentistry. The Day Clinic and Disabled Unit, which we have put into service, will be able to treat patients with fear of dental treatment and jaw surgeries that require general anesthesia, and primarily dental treatment of disabled individuals from Ordu and neighboring provinces. In addition, we are activating the Family Health Center in Cumhuriyet Campus. In the Family Health Center, which will serve the staff and students of our University in the first place, diagnosis, medication, dressing, analysis and cardiological evaluations can be made.”
