Nursing Week Symposium Held at ODU

“Nursing Week Symposium” was held at our university.

The symposium held on YouTube Oduzem channel was attended by Rector Prof. Dr. Ali Akdoğan, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences Prof. Dr. Nülüfer Erbil, academicians, students and guests.

Making the opening speech of the program, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences Prof. Dr. Nülüfer Erbil said, “Nurses are knowledgeable, talented and highly educated professionals who provide a human-centered holistic view with compassion and care, which we absolutely need to receive service in any period of our lives, in the protection and development of health, treatment of disease and rehabilitation services. On the 12th of May Nurses' Day, which is the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale and celebrated all over the world, I congratulate the Nurses' Day of my colleagues, who are valuable professionals of the science and art of nursing, and our esteemed students, who are the future of our country. On the occasion of this special day, I would like to thank all the participants and those who contributed to the organization of the symposium, especiallyour Rector Prof. Dr. Ali Akdoğan.”

Rector Prof. Dr. Ali Akdoğan said, “Nursing is a sacred profession that has preserved its value and dignity throughout history, which requires the ability to do its job with love, respect and devotion, along with the services of protecting and improving individual and public health, providing patient care with scientific methods. Nursing is an important professional field that exists in every period of life, starting before birth and continuing until the moment of death. Valuing people and human health above all else; our nurses, who adopt the principle of serving the society with dedication, patience and compassion; While performing this sacred duty they fulfill, they strive day and night to reach every part of our society without any discrimination, and they deserve praise and appreciation for their selfless work. We also need to know the value of our brothers and sisters who practice these professions. Therefore, it is extremely important for us that the comfort of our instructors and that they train our students in the best possible way by providing education in better conditions. With these thoughts, I congratulate those who contributed to the organization of this important symposium and wish the symposium to be beneficial.”

At the "Nursing: Past, Present, Future" panel held after the opening speeches, the development of the nursing profession, changing roles and duties of nurses, and nursing education for future nurses were discussed. In the second panel of the symposium titled “Students' Opinions and Expectations Regarding Undergraduate and Postgraduate Education”, the audience was informed by panelists who are experts in their fields on undergraduate, graduate and doctoral education from a student perspective.
