A public-university-industry cooperation consultation meeting on agriculture was held at our university.

The meeting held in the Senate Hall was attended by Ordu Governor Tuncay Sonel, Ordu Metropolitan Mayor Dr. Mehmet Hilmi Guler, Rector Prof. Dr. Ali Akdogan, Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Niyazi Tasci and Prof. Dr. Tahsin Tonkaz, Secretary General Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Sami Güler, academicians of our University, representatives of public institutions and organizations, industrialists and business people from Ordu.

In his speech at the meeting, Rector Prof. Dr. Ali Akdoğan said, “Universities are institutions that leave the knowledge they have obtained by doing research to the industry for application and transform the results obtained by the industry back into education. In this way, industries have many opportunities such as access to complex technological information, access to a highly equipped scientific/technical workforce, rapid technological progress in technologically backward areas, the ability to use the facilities of the university and the training of technical personnel in the industry. Therefore, while our industrialists and business people are actively performing these works, the academicians of our University continue their studies in the dimension of knowledge and theory. In this context, we will discuss how we can add value to this city, this country, in agriculture, industry, tourism, health and other fields so that theory and practice can be together. Joint studies with universities that create added value and lay the groundwork for the socialization of knowledge will contribute to the social and cultural enrichment of social life, while preparing the environment for the development of national industry, especially in the province and region. Our University; I believe that when our Governorship, Metropolitan Municipality, industrialists and business people cooperate, these will create very positive results for us, for you, for the society and for our state as added value in practical life.” 
 

Ordu Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Dr. Mehmet Hilmi Güler said, “Our biggest goal is to use our resources well, and our biggest resource is people. We identified our sources and made our SWOT analysis. Therefore, our work is to use our resources in the best way possible. Ordu has a very beautiful place strategically. With the 14 tunnels we opened, we land in Mersin in 6 hours. It is not only enough for us to land, we also need to unload our products logistically. The import and export of the 41 provinces in between will be from either Ordu or Mersin. Here, brains will unite, knowledge will merge, universities will unite. We have established 5 companies by analyzing this and one of them is the Department of Agriculture, which is not in any municipality. Here we are doing things that are not mentioned in Turkey. We are also building power plants. We also carry out important studies in the fields of tourism, food, software and construction. Therefore, our legal and commercial instruments are ready. Since the subject is agriculture and industry, and the economy and food are intertwined, all 5 of our companies can be involved in this business.” 

Ordu Governor Tuncay Sonel said, “We are with our 19 districts and whatever beauty is to be done in our city. I congratulate our University here, this was a meeting we were waiting for. Because the views and contributions of our universities, science centers and academicians are very important. We also have business people here who know the field. We need to evaluate the statements of our Honorable Minister carefully in the works to be done here. With unity and solidarity, we stand by whatever will be in favor of our city and local people. If we provide this unity and solidarity in every environment, if we give our energy to this work, it will be put even more on what is done in Ordu. For this, as Ordu, we need to work more, produce more, export more and give more jobs and food to our people. With these feelings and thoughts, I wish this meeting to be beneficial for our Ordu and to be instrumental in the realization of concrete works.” 

After the speeches, ideas were exchanged on research activities and projects that could be carried out for public-university, industry cooperation.
